- 2 oz high-quality tequila (blanco or reposado)
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- 0.5 oz fresh orange juice (optional, for balance)
- 0.5 oz agave nectar (adjust to taste)
- Ice
- Coarse salt or Tajin seasoning for rim
- Lime wedge or jalapeño slice for garnish
- Prepare your glass: Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass. Dip the rim into a shallow plate of salt or Tajin seasoning.
- Combine ingredients: In a cocktail shaker, add the tequila, fresh lime juice, orange juice (if using), and agave nectar.
- Add ice: Fill the shaker two-thirds full with ice.
- Shake well: Close the shaker securely and shake hard for about 15 to 20 seconds until the shaker is very cold.
- Strain and serve: Fill your prepared glass with fresh ice. Strain the mixture from the shaker into the glass.
- Garnish: Add a lime wedge or a thin slice of jalapeño to the glass for an aesthetic touch.
Notes
- Adjust the agave nectar amount based on how tart you like your drink; start with less and add more if needed.
- For an extra fresh flavor, muddle two thin slices of jalapeño in the shaker before adding ice and liquids.
- Use a good quality tequila; since this recipe uses fewer mixers, the tequila flavor stands out.
