Ingredients
Scale
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup creamy peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 tablespoon butter, for greasing pan
Instructions
Lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking pan with butter. Set aside.
Combine the sweetened condensed milk and sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to bubble.
Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture reaches 234 degrees Fahrenheit on a candy thermometer, or until it thickens slightly (about 8 to 10 minutes). Do not let it boil rapidly.
Remove the saucepan from the heat. Quickly stir in the peanut butter and vanilla extract until completely smooth.
Fold in the chopped walnuts.
Pour the fudge mixture into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
Let the fudge cool and set completely at room temperature for at least 4 hours, or chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour for faster setting.
Once firm, cut the fudge into 1-inch squares.
Notes
For the creamiest homemade fudge recipe, stir constantly when heating the milk and sugar mixture to prevent scorching.
If you do not have a candy thermometer, the mixture is ready when a small drop placed in cold water forms a soft ball.
Wrap individual pieces tightly in plastic wrap before placing them in an airtight container for the best nutty fudge for gifting.
