Make perfectly crispy, sweet banana chips right in your air fryer with a simple cinnamon sugar coating. This easy recipe delivers a satisfying, healthy snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium green bananas (unripe)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bananas: Peel the green bananas. Slice them very thinly, about 1/16 inch thick. A mandoline slicer works best for uniform thickness.
  2. Coat the slices: In a medium bowl, toss the banana slices with the melted coconut oil until lightly coated.
  3. Mix the topping: In a small, separate bowl, combine the granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Toss with sugar: Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the oiled banana slices and toss gently until all slices are evenly coated.
  5. Arrange in air fryer: Place the coated banana slices in a single layer inside your air fryer basket. Work in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding, which prevents crisping.
  6. Air fry: Cook at 325 degrees Fahrenheit (160 degrees Celsius) for 10 to 14 minutes.
  7. Shake halfway: At the 7-minute mark, carefully pull out the basket and shake it well to redistribute the chips. Return to the air fryer.
  8. Check for crispness: Continue cooking until the chips are golden brown and crisp. Cooking time varies based on thickness and air fryer model.
  9. Cool completely: Remove the chips from the air fryer and let them cool completely on a wire rack. They will crisp up more as they cool down.

Notes

  • Use green, unripe bananas for the best texture; ripe bananas become soft or mushy when air fried.
  • For a lower sugar option, reduce the sugar to 1 tablespoon and increase the cinnamon slightly.
  • Store leftover chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
