Welcome to My Kitchen! You need a side dish that disappears fast? Try these Crack Green Beans. They turn simple green beans into something absolutely addictive with buttery tenderness, crispy bacon, and a hint of sweet brown sugar. This is the easy side dish everyone asks for again.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 4 slices bacon, cut into small pieces
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon pieces in a large skillet over medium heat until they are crisp. Remove the bacon pieces with a slotted spoon and set them aside on a paper towel-lined plate, leaving about 1 tablespoon of bacon grease in the skillet.
  2. Add the trimmed green beans to the skillet with the bacon grease. Sauté the green beans over medium heat for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to become tender-crisp.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, soy sauce, water, and garlic powder until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Pour the sauce mixture over the green beans in the skillet. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, for about 5 to 8 minutes, or until the sauce thickens and coats the green beans well.
  6. Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the reserved crispy bacon pieces.
  7. Serve your flavorful green beans immediately.

Notes

  • For a holiday side dish that impresses, make sure your green beans are bright green and tender-crisp, not mushy.
  • If you want a slightly sweeter flavor, you can increase the brown sugar by one extra tablespoon.
  • This recipe works well with fresh or frozen green beans; if using frozen, thaw and pat them dry before sautéing.
