Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs ground beef and pork mixture
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley, for garnish
  • Cooked egg noodles or mashed potatoes, for serving
  • Lingonberry jam, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Add ground meat, chopped onion, egg, salt, pepper, allspice, and nutmeg to the breadcrumb mixture. Mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
  3. Roll the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
  4. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides. Remove meatballs from skillet and set aside.
  5. Add flour to the skillet drippings and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly to form a roux.
  6. Gradually whisk in beef broth until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring until thickened.
  7. Stir in heavy cream and Worcestershire sauce. Season with additional salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Return the meatballs to the skillet. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until meatballs are cooked through.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley. Serve hot over egg noodles or mashed potatoes, with lingonberry jam on the side.

Notes

  • For softer meatballs, ensure you don’t overmix the meat mixture.
  • You can bake the meatballs at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes if you prefer not to pan-fry them.
  • Adjust the amount of cream to achieve your desired gravy consistency.
