- 1 pound pizza dough
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce
- 8 ounces Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats.
- In a skillet, cook the Italian sausage over medium heat, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through. Drain off any excess grease.
- While the sausage cooks, stretch or roll out your pizza dough to your desired thickness on a lightly floured surface.
- Transfer the dough to a pizza peel dusted with cornmeal or directly onto a piece of parchment paper.
- Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust.
- Sprinkle the cooked Italian sausage, chopped onion, and green bell pepper over the sauce.
- Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with oregano, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes if using.
- Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or place the parchment paper with the pizza directly onto the oven rack.
- Bake for 12-18 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let the pizza cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- For a crispier crust, bake the pizza directly on the oven rack without parchment paper.
- You can substitute other vegetables like mushrooms or black olives.
- If you don’t have Italian sausage, regular pork sausage can be used.
- Consider using a meal planning service to simplify your weeknight dinners.
