A hearty homemade pizza topped with savory Italian sausage, perfect for any occasion.

  • 1 pound pizza dough
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 8 ounces Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats.
  2. In a skillet, cook the Italian sausage over medium heat, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. While the sausage cooks, stretch or roll out your pizza dough to your desired thickness on a lightly floured surface.
  4. Transfer the dough to a pizza peel dusted with cornmeal or directly onto a piece of parchment paper.
  5. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust.
  6. Sprinkle the cooked Italian sausage, chopped onion, and green bell pepper over the sauce.
  7. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  8. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with oregano, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes if using.
  9. Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or place the parchment paper with the pizza directly onto the oven rack.
  10. Bake for 12-18 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Let the pizza cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

  • For a crispier crust, bake the pizza directly on the oven rack without parchment paper.
