A simple overnight French toast casserole recipe perfect for holiday brunches. Prepare it the night before for an easy, delicious breakfast.

  • 1 loaf (1 pound) challah or brioche bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Arrange bread cubes in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt.
  3. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes. Press down gently to ensure bread is soaked.
  4. Cover the dish and refrigerate overnight.
  5. In a small bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and pecans (if using). Mix until crumbly.
  6. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the French toast casserole.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 45-55 minutes, or until golden brown and set.
  8. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
