A simple and authentic Margherita pizza recipe, featuring a thin crust topped with fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella, and basil.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound pizza dough
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C). If you have a pizza stone or steel, place it in the oven while it preheats.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, stretch or roll out the pizza dough to your desired thickness.
  3. Transfer the dough to a pizza peel or a piece of parchment paper.
  4. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust.
  5. Arrange the fresh mozzarella slices over the sauce.
  6. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  7. Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or steel (or bake directly on a baking sheet).
  8. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Remove from the oven, scatter fresh basil leaves over the top, slice, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a crispier crust, bake directly on a preheated pizza stone or steel.
  • Ensure your mozzarella is fresh and not pre-shredded for the best flavor and texture.
  • You can add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little heat.
