- 8 cups apple cider
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 teaspoon whole cloves
- 1 orange, sliced
- Optional: 1/4 cup brown sugar or maple syrup
- Combine apple cider, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and orange slices in a large pot.
- If using, stir in brown sugar or maple syrup.
- Heat over medium heat until simmering. Do not boil.
- Reduce heat to low and let simmer for at least 15-20 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
- Remove cinnamon sticks, cloves, and orange slices before serving.
- Serve warm.
Notes
- For a slow cooker version, combine all ingredients in a slow cooker and heat on low for 2-3 hours.
- You can add other mulling spices like star anise or cardamom pods.
- For an adult version, add a shot of rum, bourbon, or spiced rum to each mug.
