Make this simple, savory, and creamy cheese ball ahead of time for a retro party appetizer centerpiece that pairs well with crackers and vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup dried beef, finely chopped (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons scallions, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup pecans, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, chopped dried beef (if using), scallions, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
  2. Mix all ingredients thoroughly until completely combined and smooth. You can use an electric mixer on low speed or a sturdy spoon.
  3. Cover the cheese mixture and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to firm up slightly. This makes shaping easier.
  4. Spread the finely chopped pecans on a large plate or piece of parchment paper.
  5. Remove the chilled cheese mixture from the refrigerator. Shape the mixture into a ball using your hands.
  6. Roll the cheese ball completely in the chopped pecans until it is evenly coated.
  7. Wrap the finished cheese ball tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, before serving.
  8. When ready to serve, place the cheese ball on a serving platter and surround it with crackers, celery sticks, and carrot sticks.

Notes

  • For a different flavor profile, substitute the dried beef with 4 slices of cooked, crumbled bacon.
  • If you are planning your weekly meals, this recipe is a great make-ahead option that reduces stress compared to relying on meal planning services or meal delivery companies.
  • If you prefer a green coating, use finely chopped fresh parsley instead of pecans.
