Learn how to make the ultimate comfort sandwich with a perfectly crispy, buttery exterior and a gooey, melted cheese interior. This simple recipe is ideal for a quick and satisfying lunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices of bread
  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened
  • 2 ounces cheese, sliced or shredded (cheddar, American, or a mix)

Instructions

  1. Spread butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
  2. Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, in a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat.
  3. Layer the cheese on top of the bread in the skillet.
  4. Place the second slice of bread on top of the cheese, butter-side up.
  5. Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the bottom slice is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt.
  6. Carefully flip the sandwich using a spatula.
  7. Cook for another 3-5 minutes, or until the second side is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted and gooey.
  8. Remove from skillet, slice, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can spread mayonnaise on the outside of the bread instead of butter.
  • Experiment with different cheese combinations like cheddar and Gruyère for a more complex flavor.
  • Keep the heat on medium-low to ensure the bread toasts evenly without burning before the cheese melts.
