Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (24 ounce) jar marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9-inch pie plate.
  2. Cook spaghetti according to package directions until al dente. Drain well and toss with olive oil.
  3. In a large skillet, cook ground beef and onion over medium heat until beef is browned. Drain off any excess fat. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  4. Stir in marinara sauce, oregano, and basil. Simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  5. In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, beaten egg, Parmesan cheese, and black pepper. Mix well.
  6. In a separate small bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Stir the cream cheese into the ricotta mixture until fully combined.
  7. In a large bowl, mix the cooked spaghetti with half of the ricotta mixture until the pasta is evenly coated.
  8. Press the coated spaghetti mixture firmly into the bottom and up the sides of the prepared pie plate to form a crust.
  9. Spread half of the meat sauce over the spaghetti crust. Sprinkle with 1 cup of the mozzarella cheese.
  10. Spread the remaining ricotta mixture evenly over the mozzarella layer. Top with the remaining meat sauce.
  11. Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of mozzarella cheese over the top layer.
  12. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are lightly browned.
  13. Let the spaghetti pie cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • You can prepare this dish ahead of time. Assemble completely, cover tightly, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking. Add 10-15 minutes to the baking time if baking directly from the refrigerator.
  • For a make-ahead pasta dish that saves time, consider using pre-made meat sauce.
  • This recipe is easy to adapt; if you prefer not to use ground beef, you can substitute it with Italian sausage or ground turkey.
  • If you are looking for alternatives to traditional cooking methods, this is much simpler than complex meal planning or relying on meal delivery companies.
