Make perfectly caramelized and tender sweet potato cubes with a simple, savory spice mix. This easy recipe delivers crispy edges and a soft interior, making it a reliable side dish for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a little heat)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sweet potato cubes, olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper if you are using it. Toss everything together until the sweet potatoes are evenly coated with oil and spices.
  3. Spread the seasoned sweet potato cubes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Do not overcrowd the pan; use two sheets if necessary to ensure they roast instead of steam.
  4. Roast for 20 minutes.
  5. Remove the pan from the oven and use a spatula to flip the sweet potato cubes.
  6. Return the pan to the oven and roast for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender on the inside and nicely caramelized and crispy on the outside.
  7. Remove from the oven and serve immediately as a great side dish for your family dinner.

Notes

  • For extra crispy results, toss the potatoes with 1 teaspoon of cornstarch along with the oil and spices before roasting.
  • If you are planning your weekly meals, these cubes are excellent for meal planning and reheat well.
  • You can substitute the savory spices with brown sugar and cinnamon for a sweeter side dish, similar to candied sweet potatoes.
