A rich and creamy chocolate fudge recipe that is easy to make on the stovetop.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Grease an 8×8 inch baking pan.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the sweetened condensed milk, granulated sugar, butter, and cocoa powder.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture comes to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat to low and continue to cook, stirring constantly, for 5-7 minutes, or until thickened. Do not overcook.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and nuts, if using.
  6. Pour the fudge into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  7. Let the fudge cool completely at room temperature, then cut into squares.

Notes

  • For a smoother fudge, you can sift the cocoa powder before adding it to the saucepan.
  • If you don’t have a candy thermometer, the fudge is ready when it thickens and starts to pull away from the sides of the pan.
  • Store fudge in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
