Make festive and delicious chocolate crinkle cookies for your holiday cookie platter. This easy-to-follow recipe yields perfectly soft and chewy cookies with a beautiful crinkled appearance.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar, for rolling

Instructions

  1. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Cover the dough and chill for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Place the powdered sugar in a shallow dish.
  8. Roll the chilled dough into 1-inch balls.
  9. Roll each ball generously in the powdered sugar, ensuring it is fully coated.
  10. Place the coated balls about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  11. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still slightly soft.
  12. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For an extra rich chocolate flavor, use Dutch-processed cocoa powder.
  • If the dough becomes too sticky to handle, chill it for another 15-30 minutes.
  • These cookies store well in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
