Make sizzling, restaurant-style chicken fajitas at home with this easy recipe. Marinated chicken strips, charred bell peppers, and onions create a flavorful Tex-Mex dinner perfect for a lively weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 bell peppers (any color), sliced
  • 8 warm tortillas
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, guacamole

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine lime juice, olive oil, minced garlic, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Add the sliced chicken and toss to coat. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat a large skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers to the same skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are tender-crisp and slightly charred, about 5-8 minutes.
  4. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet with the vegetables. Stir to combine and heat through.
  5. Serve the chicken and vegetable mixture immediately with warm tortillas and your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can grill the chicken and vegetables instead of pan-frying.
  • Adjust the spice level by adding more or less chili powder or a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • This recipe is great for meal planning and can be prepped ahead of time.
