Ingredients
Scale
4 cups vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup milk (whole or 2%)
6 large candy canes, crushed
1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract (optional)
Whipped cream, for topping
1 small candy cane, for garnish
Instructions
Place the 6 large candy canes into a sturdy plastic bag. Use a rolling pin or the bottom of a heavy pan to crush them until they are mostly fine pieces. Set aside a small amount of crushed candy for topping.
In a blender, combine the vanilla ice cream, milk, most of the crushed candy canes, and the optional peppermint extract.
Blend on medium speed until the mixture is smooth and creamy. If the milkshake is too thick, add milk, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency. Avoid over-blending to keep it thick.
Pour the milkshake into two tall glasses.
Top each serving generously with whipped cream.
Sprinkle the remaining crushed candy canes over the whipped cream.
Garnish each glass with one small candy cane stuck into the whipped cream. Serve immediately.
Notes
For an extra thick shake, chill your serving glasses in the freezer for 15 minutes before pouring.
If you are looking for simple recipes for everyday meals that taste great, this is a good option.
If you prefer a less intense peppermint flavor, reduce the extract to 1/8 teaspoon or omit it entirely.
