Ingredients
Scale
1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or tenders, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 large egg
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Cooking spray (for air fryer)
For the Bang Bang Sauce:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
2 tablespoons sriracha (adjust to your spice preference)
1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
1 teaspoon rice vinegar
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
For Serving (Optional):
Cooked white rice
Sliced green onions
Sesame seeds
Instructions
Prepare the chicken coating: In one bowl, whisk the egg. In a second shallow dish, combine the flour, panko breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper.
Dredge the chicken: Dip each piece of chicken first into the egg mixture, letting excess drip off, then press firmly into the panko mixture until fully coated.
Air fry the chicken: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange the coated chicken pieces in a single layer, working in batches if necessary. Spray the tops of the chicken lightly with cooking spray.
Cook the chicken at 380°F (195°C) for 10 to 12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature reaches 165°F).
Make the Bang Bang Sauce: While the chicken cooks, whisk together the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, honey, rice vinegar, and garlic powder in a medium bowl until smooth.
Toss the chicken: Once the chicken is crispy and cooked, transfer the hot pieces to a large bowl. Pour the prepared Bang Bang Sauce over the chicken and toss gently until every piece is evenly coated.
Serve immediately over rice, garnished with green onions and sesame seeds for a flavorful chicken dinner.
Notes
For extra crispy chicken, let the coated pieces rest on a wire rack for 10 minutes before air frying.
If you prefer a gluten-free option, substitute the all-purpose flour with gluten-free flour and use gluten-free panko breadcrumbs.
To make this a Bang Bang Chicken Bowl, serve the sauced chicken over cooked jasmine rice with steamed broccoli or shredded carrots.
