Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup apple cider
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Topping:
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a donut pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the apple cider and vanilla extract to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a smooth batter forms. Do not overmix.
  7. Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about two-thirds full.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. While the donuts are baking, prepare the topping. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, and cinnamon.
  10. Let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  11. While the donuts are still warm, dip each one into the cinnamon sugar mixture, ensuring they are fully coated.
  12. Serve immediately for the best texture.

Notes

  • You do not need a special donut pan; you can use a muffin tin and adjust baking time.
  • Using concentrated apple cider will give a more intense apple flavor.
  • For a crispier donut, you can bake them a minute or two longer.
  • Store leftover donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
