A simple stovetop or slow-cooker apple butter recipe with low sugar and warm spices, perfect for canning.

Ingredients

  • 4 lbs apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp allspice
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Combine apples and water in a large pot or slow cooker.
  2. Cook on low heat until apples soften, about 2 hours.
  3. Blend apples until smooth.
  4. Add maple syrup and spices, then simmer for another hour until thickened.
  5. Pour into sterilized jars and process in a water bath for 10 minutes.
