Make perfectly crispy-skinned, fluffy-centered baked potatoes quickly in your air fryer. This simple method is a fast alternative to oven baking and is great for weeknight sides.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium Russet potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Scrub the potatoes well under running water. Dry them completely with a paper towel.
  2. Use a fork to pierce each potato deeply 6 to 8 times all over. This prevents them from exploding.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the olive oil, coarse salt, pepper, and garlic powder if using.
  4. Rub the oil mixture evenly over the entire surface of each potato, focusing on getting salt into the pierced holes.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  6. Place the seasoned potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they do not touch. Work in batches if necessary.
  7. Air fry for 35 to 45 minutes, flipping the potatoes halfway through the cooking time. Cooking time depends on potato size.
  8. Check for doneness by inserting a fork into the center; it should slide in easily. The skin should look crisp.
  9. Remove from the air fryer. Slice open the top of each potato, fluff the inside with a fork, and add your desired toppings.

Notes

  • For extra crispy skin, lightly spray the potatoes with cooking spray right before the last 5 minutes of cooking.
  • If you are planning meals, this hands-off method frees up your oven space, unlike traditional baking.
  • Serve these potatoes as a base for a hearty meal, similar to what you might get from a meal delivery service, but made fresh at home.
